Eastern Shipbuilding Group Launches New Ferries

Staten Island Ferry

When Eastern Shipbuilding Group was contracted to build new ferries for Staten Island Ferry, they needed a drainage system that would be safe, reliable, and durable enough to support the safe transportation and sanitary wastewater needs of 22 million passengers every year.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group required a high-quality, easy-to-install solution that would help ensure the project was completed on time and within budget, despite setbacks from Hurricane Michael’s aftermath.

Easy-to-clean, fire-resistant and lightweight solution was essential
Eastern Shipbuilding Group relied on the performance of BLÜCHER’s pipes and fittings to provide durability and help ensure hygienic conditions to support the high volume of passengers onboard the ferries. BLÜCHER’s stainless steel design provided an easy-to-clean, fire-resistant solution that is essential for ferries at sea.

Where an alternative material could be much heavier than stainless steel, BLÜCHER’s lightweight push-fit pipes require only one person for installation. The easy-to-install design increased labor savings by significantly reducing time and money spent, allowing for a quicker, smoother launch of the ferries.

"I have been doing this for 37 years, and I have launches several vessels.
This is one of the smoothest ones I have seen."

- Marvin Serna, Eastern Shipbuilding Group

Resulted in successful launch on time within budget
Eastern Shipbuilding Group has launched two brand-new ferries and is working to get the next ferry ready to launch. With the help of BLÜCHER’s quality, durable, easy-to-install stainless steel pipes and fittings, Eastern Shipbuilding Group was able to ensure a successful launch that was on time and within budget.
