Case story: New, Modern Fire Department in Kalmar, Sweden
There had been a need for a new fire department in Kalmar for a long time. The old station was built over 100 years ago, and was adapted for emergency call outs made with horse and carriage. By then it was located in the outskirts of the city, but as the city grew during the coming 100 years, the fire department came to find itself in the very core of the city center. A new, modern fire department had to be built, and it had to be located several kilometers outside the center with direct access to the freeway and far away from the city traffic lights.
The consultant engineer firm Ramböll in Malmö did the technical drawings after a meeting attended by BLÜCHER, and the plumbing was done by ACE, a technical installations company based in Kalmar.
“We often work with BLÜCHER”, says Project Manager Christer Jonsson at ACE. “We want to work with local companies, and we appreciate the extra value it gives us that BLÜCHER has its’ office here in the city. Another good thing with using products from BLÜCHER, he continues, is the fast delivery. There is never a problem with getting the goods to the facility”.
The new fire department in Kalmar was ready for use in April 2017, and there are channels and drains from BLÜCHER in the premises for a number of applications. For example, there are channels for the hall where the fire engines are parked while waiting for emergency calls, there are extra wide channels installed in the washing hall where they wash off the dirt from the incoming cars, and there are smaller channels installed in the shower rooms. There are also industrial drains and classic floor drains installed in the building, which has an area of more than 6000 m².
