| Harrogate Hydro Pool |
| - The ‘changing village’ at the prestigious Harrogate Hydro Pool has been fitted with high quality stainless steel drains from BLÜCHER UK Ltd. |
Harrogate Hydro Pool is a community swimming pool and leisure centre owned by Harrogate Borough Council. The "Hydro", as the Pool is called, offers a 25 metre pool, movable floor, diving pool and learner facility, in addition to an aerobics studio and fully equipped gym.
Fitted in the changing areas and toilets, stainless steel was the only material actively considered for the project by specifier Andrew Sharpe of Shepherd Design in York. "This was for three reasons," he says. "Firstly stainless steel is hygienic, easy to clean and resists the chlorine in the air and water of swimming pools. Secondly, we wanted a flush fitting floor drainage system that presented no potential for accidents, particularly for bare feet. Our third consideration was one of aesthetics - the drainage is bright and durable stainless steel like many other parts of this building."
Both the product quality and service Shepherd’s Andrew Sharpe received from BLÜCHER UK impressed him. "We have used stainless steel drainage products from BM in the past and have always been happy with the range on offer and the performance," he says. "We have also found the level of technical support to be very good and we will certainly continue to use them in the future."

The durable AISI 316 stainless steel drains at the Harrogate Hydro are expected to retain their bright finish indefinitely without maintenance. The smooth, hard surface of stainless steel is hygienic, easily cleaned and present minimum resistance to water discharge. And, of course, the stainless steel used for the drains is 100% recyclable once their operational life comes to an end. |
